Full course description

Topic: Conversational Compass for Better Conversations
Date: Thursday, August 12, 2021
Time: 11:00PM-12:00PM

Effective dialogue and meaningful conversations are at the heart of a learning organization, it is as much a mindset as it is a practice. The more connected we are with one another, the more effective and meaningful our workplace will be. Connection matters more than ever as we transition to a hybrid workforce. If you want to lead, influence, manage or work more successfully with others, either individually or as teams, rethink essential practices that connect, open, explore and close (COEC) a variety of conversations. Leveraging coaching and leadership skills, UBC’s COEC conversation compass is an easy to use framework that helps leaders cultivate trust, attend to complex situations, speak honestly, think boldly and facilitate new insights and mutual learning, while moving towards action.

At the end of this session, participants will:

  • Enhance the quality and interpersonal effectiveness of your conversations by learning how to apply the Conversational Compass model in everyday individual, group and team discussions.
  • Learn the importance of each element of the model as a means to advance people practices grounded in wellbeing and the values of respect, collaboration and innovation.
  • Understand coach-like effectiveness by utilizing an easy conversational compass template when preparing for better workplace conversations
